Chocolate “Massage” @ Choco Spa, Granada (Nicaragua)
The idea of getting chocolate rubbed all over your body might sound interesting, but in reality, it is rather sticky and uncomfortable. But we were on vacation in Nicaragua, so we thought why not treat ourseveles to something that we will never thought of doing anywhere else.
Upon walking into Choco Museo, you are immediately greeted by the beautiful courtyard and the cafe setup around it. There is one small reception desk with only one person working, serving as the entry point for both the spa and the hotel. You are given a slip of paper with the spa room # to go to. The building itself is gorgeous, with a 2nd courtyard and a huge pool at the end of the hall.
We booked the first appointment of 9am, but the room wasn’t ready and by the time they got the chocolate ready, it was already 15 past 9. I stripped down to my underwear and planted my head down on the message table. The hole for the head was enormously large, which made it very uncomfortable for me. For the next 20 mins, I felt a block of semi-hot chocolate melting between my masseuse’s palms and occasional water splashing on the side of my cheeks when the chocolate is being mixed with water. After my back is completely covered by chocolate, she proceeded with sprinkling sugar powder all over me and performed scrubs on my back. And that was the best part of the massage. When it is all said and done, I was covered entirely by chocolate from head to toes (including my undies too). After laying there for 10 mins for the chocolate to dry, I was led to the shower to rinse off.
And that was it, 35 mins of chocolate “massage” + 10 mins of drying + 5 mins of rinsing. My 60 mins massage lasted 50 mins and the massage itself, it was more of her rubbing chocolate on me.
Don’t get me wrong, the experience was interesting and unique. But don’t come here looking for a real massage (my mistake) because then you will be disappointed!
Tip: Your entry includes full use of the pool, definitely take advantage of that!
