Love for Hamilton
After watching the Hamilton on Broadway 🎠(won 2 tickets by entering the lottery), I wanted to follow the footsteps of Alexander Hamilton and George Washington.
First, we went to see the George Washington's headquarters in Newburgh, it is about 1.5 hr drive from Manhattan. We picked a weekend to stay at my aunt's Summer house in Garrison and visited the Storm King Art Center afterwards (15 mins away). The admission to Washington's headquarters was $4, including a visit to the museum plus a guided tour to the house (headquarter). The collection at the museum was impressive, with artifacts, weapons, and clothings recovered from the headquarters. The guided tour was comprehensive with a very knowledgeable guide, she shared some of the most interesting stories about George Washington.
Then I learned from a podcast that Hamilton’s residence in NYC is open for visitors! On a separate occasion, we drove to Hamilton Grange in Upper Manhattan. Hamilton built this house in 1802, just two years before his deadly duel with Aaron Burr on July 11, 1804. The house was relocated twice where the first move was due to the implementation of the Manhattan street grid. During the guided tour, we got to visit the home's three restored period rooms as well as the downstair gallery containing historical information about Alexander Hamilton at our own pace.
