Dec. 24 - 30, 2016 (7D7N): Visitors would be surprised to find that there are a lot of beautiful spots in El Salvador - a lesser known tourist destination in Central America. I was there to visit families but the guide below provides a good overview for a first-time visitor! It is also possible to combine this visit with Guatemala.

• Late arrival in San Salvador from NYC

Day 2

• Drive around town and visit families

• Lunch @ Pollo Campero*; dessert @ Mr. Donuts

• Dinner - pupusa* at some hole in the wall near Plaza Masferrer

Day 3

• Parque Nacional Cerro Verde (join a guided hike)

• Lunch @ La Pampa*

• Boat ride by Lago de Coatepeque (negotiate the rate first)

• Dinner @ Bocadillos Taiwaneses

Day 4

• Parque El Boquerin

• Coffee @ La Brumas* (sip coffee and enjoy the view)

• Lunch @ Caliche’s* (located in Bulevar Santa Elena, El Salvador)

• Puerta del Diablo (climb to the top to get an amazing view)

  • Try the food stands after the climb

Day 5

• Termales de Santa Teresa (hot springs; $10)

• Drive along Ruta de las Flores

  • Juayua – walk around, church with black Christ statue, market, lunch

  • Chorros de los Calera (7 waterfalls)

  • Ice cream @ San Julian

Day 6        

• Lunch @ Beto's Restaurante La Libertad*

• El Tunco beach- drinks @ Thekla Beach Club*

• Coffee @ Macchiato

• Dinner @ Super Cocteles (Seafood)

Day 7

• Shop around

• Yogurt @ La Neveria

• Lunch @ Mariscos Y Cocteles “Maurita”* inside the market (Mercadito de merliot)

• Snack – pupusa
